My list of Coolness Blog

{July 8, 2009}   Long overdue Book finds post 7.8.09

There’s been some great book to read out there. I’ve been trying to let you know about them for weeks now. But first:

  • Today would be a great day to stop by your local comic books store. Today (7/8) DC comic released their first in a series of 12 of their Wednesday comics series. Go here for details
  • Tonight (7/8) David Eagleman will discuss his new book: “Sum: Forty Tales From the Afterlife” at Books and Books in Coral Gables @8pm
  • Jason Sheehan’s funny and filled with f-bombs “Cooking Dirty
  • NPR features a new fiction book by Kate Walbert’s “A Short History of Women.”
  • Maybe a companion: Cokie Roberts’ new book “Founding Mothers: The Women Who Raised Our Nation.” In this book, Roberts explores patriotic women.
  • Musicians Sara Jaffe and Mia Clarke’s new book about life on the road called “The Art of Touring”
  • A little difficult to read the actual list, but scroll down to the Summer Reading List section of this newsletter. It’s well worth the eye strain, the list is written by Pop Candy’s priestess of cool: Whitney Matheson
  • Short fiction is in decline in popularity and I don’t know why. I love it. Here’s a website that posts great short stories
  • Paste Magazine lists 10 frequently-challenged books everyone should read
  • And finally, here’s a helpful blog dedicated to pushing awareness of African-American literary voices
