Books and Books is the best independent bookstore Miami has, constantly bringing top authors to a city not known as an intellectual mecca. Some events and books caught my attention this week:

Miami Events first:

  • Author Chris Cleave discusses his new book Little Bee, Monday, March 22, 8pm, at Books and Books Coral Gables
  • Lionel Shriver author of ‘So Much For That‘ reading and signing, Wednesday, March 24, 8pm, at Books and Books Coral Gables. There is a free reception with the author before the event. RSVP to cristina@booksandbooks.com
  • One of the twenty best American writers under forty, Chang-Rae Lee reads from his book The Surrendered, Friday, March 26, 8pm at Books and Books Coral Gables
  • Books and Books presents: Experience a Tuscan Evening with Frances Mayes in celebration of her new book ‘Every Day in Tuscany: Seasons of an Italian Life,’ Thursday, April 1, 6:30pm, $40, tickets are available for purchase at Books and Books

I have really slacked in the Miami events department. I hope to be better. Here’s some interesting things come your way Miamians!

  • UPDATE: Also on Saturday, Jan. 9 is Lil Daggers “excellent psychedelic garage rockers” (Miami New Times. The band includes Frank Zappa’s son Dweezil. They play Poplife at Electric Pickle in Miami.
  • And  Palo! will be kicking off the weekend with a free show at Bayfront Park! Friday, Jan. 8, from 5:30-8pm
  • And, it’s been sooooooooooooo cold in Miami 30s isn’t natural people – here’s a spot I found to get a good, hot bowl of soup – something relatively rare in S. FL!
