Books and Books is the best independent bookstore Miami has, constantly bringing top authors to a city not known as an intellectual mecca. Some events and books caught my attention this week:
Miami Events first:
- Sameet Kumar, Ph.d, discusses his latest book the mindful path through worry and rumination Saturday, March 20, 7pm, at Books and Books Coral Gables
- Learn how to write a graphic novel: Graphic Storytelling: A Workshop of Writers and Artists Wednesday May 5- Saturday, May 8, 9am-noon – as part of Florida Center for Literary Arts’ The Writer’s Institute
- Author Chris Cleave discusses his new book Little Bee, Monday, March 22, 8pm, at Books and Books Coral Gables
- Vagina Monologues Playwright Eve Ensler will read from ‘I Am an Emotional Creature: The Secret Life of Girls Around the World‘ Tuesday, March 23, 7:30pm, at Temple Judea. Tickets are required for this event. Get them for $10 at Books and Books, or online through Casa Valentina
- Lionel Shriver author of ‘So Much For That‘ reading and signing, Wednesday, March 24, 8pm, at Books and Books Coral Gables. There is a free reception with the author before the event. RSVP to cristina@booksandbooks.com
- One of the twenty best American writers under forty, Chang-Rae Lee reads from his book The Surrendered, Friday, March 26, 8pm at Books and Books Coral Gables
- Books and Books presents: Experience a Tuscan Evening with Frances Mayes in celebration of her new book ‘Every Day in Tuscany: Seasons of an Italian Life,’ Thursday, April 1, 6:30pm, $40, tickets are available for purchase at Books and Books
- Chelsea Handler will be autographing her latest Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang, Friday, March 26, 3pm tickets required.
